Signs and symbols

Quadraro area

Saturday 3rd December
at 14:30
THIS EVENT IS CANCELLED
DUE TO RAIN

with Italian assistance for children who are not fluent

Age: 6 to 12

The neighbourhood of Quadraro is home to a huge range of murals by artists from all over the world, like Gary Baseman, Ron English, Maupal and Lucamaleonte who, over the years, have turned the district into a colourful outdoor art gallery.
On our open-air visit, the children look at how these mural makers have been inspired by history, politics and pop culture to make connections with past and present, life and death, legend and reality. We search for signs and symbols in the art on our way and we stop to draw on site.

Three weeks of art, creativity and English full immersion! Visiting museums, playing in the park and engaging with many different art techniques to create our own pieces of art.
A daily camp where a small group of children learn how creativity can play an important role in our approach to life.
Native English speaking teachers, all experts in teaching art to children, guide each and every child, engaging them in activities according to their own individual learning style.
Look at the video and picture gallery from last years below, to see our children at work and learn how they enjoyed it!

Shape Hunt in Colle Oppio

Colle Oppio park is home to layers and layers of history !
In this workshop the children will use a simplified map (provided by ARTandSEEK ) as the basis for a two phases project : the children will firstly enjoy taking a close look at archeological buildings, allocating them on their map and connecting  geometric shapes visible at each of the 8 spots;
they will then be turning their map into a work of art after the style of the Roman artist Paola Gandolfi.
The workshop will take 90min.

Our resolution for 2021
is to donate art to children who are not as lucky as most of our members are,
children who have never seen a brush and never felt the happiness that art can give.
If you like the idea and you would like to donate to the
Project "ART for ALL KIDS"
we will be very grateful!
With any donation over 10€ you will get
the 2021 annual membership to ARTandSEEK for free

for Children 5 to 13

At Palazzo Massimo we will explore ancient artifacts and the stories they represent. Linking myths and legends we will see how these very old pieces have inspired contemporary artists who used the same iconography but in a modern key.
On our second visit to the Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna, we will analyse contemporary art in connection to ancient pieces seen at Palazzo Massimo.
ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONISM During the 3 lessons of this course we will learn about the artists who in the 1940s , in New York, approached art in a new different way, called later Abstract Expressionism. They changed the way we now see abstract painting, sculpture and collage. We are going to be inspired by Hans Hofmann, Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Louise Nevelson and many others to create our own abstract art works.

Join us for an exciting live drawing course consisting of 3 sessions of 2 hours each, during which the children will go to different art museums of Rome to draw on site in order to learn basic techniques for graphite drawing and coloured pencils. We will visit the permanent collections and
sit down in the museum in front of an artwork or a piece of architecture: during each session the children are shown several ways to draw, with exercises to enhance drawing
skills and to encourage critical thinking, imagination, creativity and life long connections with art. You can join one or more sessions.
Info
Join us to visit this wonderful exhibition showing art about women. As women have been consistently portrayed between the 19th and 20th centuries, we will observe art works made in contrasting art styles to understand how the portrayal of women has changed, going from depicting an icon, completely detached from reality, to a real and contemporary individual with her emotions and worries. During the visit the children will be engaged in discussion and drawing activities that will help them to portray their own idea of woman and create their artwork inspired by that.
