School programmes
Our museum programmes for schools can be tailored to supplement any curriculum area and are designed on one or more sessions of about 2 hours each:
Gallery Activities: visit to a museum of modern art in Rome. We look at 4 or 5 pieces of art linked by a theme, discuss techniques and conveyed messages through open-ended questions, and experiment with drawing, writing and other simple engaging activities.
Art Workshop: in the classroom for more than one session. Children are involved in observing and discussing the same theme through the analysis of many different pieces of modern and contemporary art. During each session they are engaged in various art activities experiencing different media and techniques.

Maps
GALLERIA NAZIONALE D'ARTE MODERNA
with Marymount International School - 3rd grade students
Wednesday 1st March 2023
We observed pieces by artists like Vettor Pisani, Alighiero Boetti, Gastone Novelli and others, and to understand the concept of 'map'. We learned about 3d art and how to create and use a legend on a map. It was fun to work with colours and words to invent our own map inspired by great artists!

Sculptures
GALLERIA NAZIONALE D'ARTE MODERNA
with St. George's British International School - year 6 students
Wednesday 27th January 2023
We travelled along the timeline of sculpture discovering styles from classical to cubist. From the classical lines of gentle marble to angular metallic creations we witnessed the evolution that this traditional art form has undergone. Inspired by works by sculptors including Antonietta Raphael Mafai, Henry Moore and Alexander Archipenko we engaged in drawing activities and discussions learning how to look at sculpture.
Telling Stories through Art
GALLERIA NAZIONALE D’ARTE MODERNA
with Rome International School - year 4 students
Tuesday 14th December 2021
We explored how artists like Leoncillo, Alberto Burri and Giuseppe Penone, tell the stories of themselves and their community through the use of unusual art materials.
We reflected on textures, on the meaning we give to objects, and on how emotions are linked to our senses. During the visit we experimented with fun activities linked to the theme and created our own ‘visual stories’.
PORTRAITS and IDENTITY
Galleria Nazionale d'Arte Moderna
Rome International School year 6
Thursday 16th December 2021
We explored how different artists as Van Gogh, Klimt, Modigliani and Pistoletto, approached the theme of portraits and how, through their artwork, they related to the concept of identity. The children were engaged in discussions and hands-on activities throughout the entire visit.
Street Art in Ostiense
Outdoor art activity
Rome International School year 5
Tuesday 7th December 2021
We looked at the relationships between humans and nature and ways in which we see these relationships represented in street art. We visited 4 striking murals by 5 different artists and saw how each was inspired by both the natural and man-made world as well as by artists who came before them. We also had the chance to see how street art is being used to help address and draw attention to social and natural issues.
